“Emo Coachella”, better known as When We Were Young, is back again this weekend at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on October 19th and 20th. Each year, the nostalgia-focused emo/pop-punk festival blankets the Strip in a sea of black as darkly-dressed fans descend upon the city.
Over 50 bands will play across 5 stages per day. This year features full album performances, in contrast to prior years, with the exception of Fall Out Boy’s overview of their entire discography. Ever since the well-received November lineup announcement, ticketholders have been anxiously expecting set time conflicts and hard choices.
After months of anticipation, the set times have finally been announced, with the major change of The All-American Rejects dropping out of the festival, stating, “there has been a management change within the WWWY operation, and they are no longer able to accommodate us in the previously agreed upon line-up, which has made it impossible for us to continue.” New to the lineup are pop-punk classic Boys Like Girls and new pop-punkers The Paradox, just formed this June. Headliners Pretty Girls Make Graves, Nada Surf, and My Chemical Romance will close the night, with MCR performing The Black Parade in its entirety for the first time in 17 years.
With such an iconic lineup, rarely seen performances, reunited bands, and hot new bands in addition to the classics, this WWWY is quickly shaping up to be one for the emo history books. The full schedule can be found below.
